From Humble Beginnings to a leading John Deere Dealership

Glenmac Sales & Service was founded by Mike Toth, an ex Chamberlain John Deere service manager, in 1976 and commenced operations from a single service bay at a petrol station in East Burwood. In that first year we sold one tractor and repaired many Chamberlain and John Deere Industrial backhoes.

In 1978 we had run out of room in East Burwood, so we rented a small factory in Ferntree Gully, sales had slowly started to build and we still had customer backhoes to repair over Christmas break.

In those early years , the tractors we sold were all built in Mannheim, Germany, were only available in two wheel drive and non cabin and were all driven from John Deere in Campbellfield to Ferntree Gully, as we didn’t have a truck in those times. The advantage of that is that customers used to receive their tractors after they had been run in.

By 1979 we had run out of room again, so we built a factory on an acre of land in Knoxfield. Sales and repairs began to boom and it was not long until we had to expand again, building additional bays and a showroom. By this stage we were selling not only Ag Tractors but the expanding range of John Deere mowers and turfcare equipment.

In 2001, we opened our Pakenham branch on two acres of land with a purpose built workshop and showroom. Pakenham was set up to support our Ag product and Knoxfield retained to service our golf course and commercial mowing customers.

In 2012 we purchased the existing Hunter & McPherson operation and set up our 3rd Glenmac branch supporting the Yarra Valley.

Glenmac has now grown from a staff of four in 1976 to over forty in 2013, but our philosophy remains the same as it was in the beginning-to offer the best customer support possible. This philosophy has worked well for us for over 37 years but we are continually striving to improve as your expectations rise.
